In the year 2023, Brazil is in the tenth position in the ranking of countries with the highest number of unicorn startups, with 19 Brazilian innovation companies valued at over US$ 1 billion, including well-known brands such as iFood, C6 Bank, Loft and Quinto To walk.
Previously, Brazil occupied the 9th position in the ranking, but was surpassed by South Korea, which now has 22 unicorns. The United States leads the list with an incredible 712 startups reaching this level, followed by China with 248. Globally, 1,431 unicorn startups were registered, of which 308 won the title in 2022.
Unicorns are companies that reach a market valuation of US$ 1 billion without having a presence on the stock exchange, being the goal of many startups around the world. According to Tipalti, there are several companies around the world that are close to entering the select list of unicorns. An annual survey conducted by innovation platform Distrito has listed the 10 Brazilian startups most likely to reach a US$1 billion market valuation, with Alura, Cora, Evino, Omie and Petlove being among those listed.
It is worth mentioning that, in addition, Brazil has been a fertile ground for the emergence of unicorns in recent years, with emphasis on the areas of fintechs, e-commerce and foodtechs. The trend is for the scenario to remain promising, attracting even more investments and strengthening the country’s position as an important innovation hub in Latin America.
